• In the midst of public health concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, the Morongo Basin Humane Society remains closed to the public until further notice. If you are interested in adopting or fostering a shelter pet, you can review the available animals right here on our website and apply online. For these and other related matters, please contact our office at (760) 366-3786 Tuesdays thru Saturdays between 11am and 4pm.

NO-Kill is Killing Us

President's Message
The Morongo Basin Humane Society, which runs the no-kill animal shelter in Joshua Tree, is in an unenviable position. We have found that the concept of no-kill may one day soon kill off the Shelter. Every one of the staff, volunteers, and board members believes in the idea that no adoptable animal should be euthanized and some seemingly unadoptable animals can become someone’s treasured pet with time and training. The problem is that this belief of complete commitment to the health and well being of every pet in the shelter comes at a very high price.
